Learn how Hivemapper works on Solana. Capture road imagery, earn HONEY, label data with AI Trainer, and access map APIs and credits. Hardware options, rewards, setup steps, and FAQs.
About Hivemapper
Hivemapper is a crowdsourced mapping network that rewards people for collecting street-level imagery and helping train map AI. Contributors use an approved dashcam—or the Open Dashcam (ODC) standard with select smartphones—to capture fresh road data while they drive. The network’s token, HONEY, lives on Solana and is used to reward contributors and to purchase map data through Hivemapper’s APIs and tools. This Solana integration enables fast, low-cost on-chain operations suitable for a high-volume contributor network.
Anyone can participate: solo drivers, rideshare and delivery fleets, or data/AI enthusiasts who prefer labeling tasks (“AI Trainer” games) instead of driving. Map customers access coverage via an Explorer and developer APIs, paying with “map credits” that are pegged to USD and underpinned by HONEY’s burn-and-mint model.
What makes Hivemapper special?
Hivemapper ties real-world data collection to a crypto-native incentive system. The project uses HONEY’s burn-and-mint model so that demand for map data (burn) counterbalances token issuance for contributions (mint), with map credits tracked in USD to simplify usage for buyers. This design aims to keep incentives aligned between contributors and data consumers.
Beyond economic design, Hivemapper’s Open Dashcam approach lowers hardware barriers and expands contributor choice, while Guilds and API access make it practical for fleets and developers to both supply and consume map data.
Decentralized Contribution
Individuals contribute map data, leading to a more scalable and cost-effective solution.
Real-time Data
With regular updates, Hivemapper provides fresher data than centralized counterparts.
Crypto Incentives
Contributors are rewarded with HONEY tokens, encouraging ongoing participation and high-quality contributions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to the most common questions about this tool
Do I need to buy a camera?
You can capture with an approved dashcam or use the Open Dashcam (ODC) standard with supported smartphone setups. Legacy HDC/HDC-S devices were discontinued in 2024.
What exactly earns HONEY?
Reward types include driving (new, usable imagery), AI Trainer tasks, and other contribution categories. Individual reward factors—like map tile saturation and image clarity—affect payouts.
How do buyers pay for data?
Buyers pay in map credits (tracked in USD). Under the burn-and-mint model, redeeming credits burns HONEY while contributor rewards mint HONEY.
Can I run a fleet and split earnings?
Yes. Create a Guild, add drivers, and configure token splits so HONEY distributes automatically.
